Our Story

Salvatore’s Italian Restaurant: A Legacy of Flavor and Family

Like many Italian family men from small villages, my father, Salvatore Tinervia, dreamed of a brighter future for his wife, Vincenza, and his sons, Giacomo and myself, Giovanni. In 1971, the allure of America drew our young family to Detroit, where hard work and determination shaped our path. By 1976, we moved to Grand Rapids, bringing with us the traditions, culture, and culinary talents that make our family’s old-world recipes truly special. It is from this rich heritage that Salvatore’s Italian Restaurant & Pizza was born, establishing itself as a cornerstone of authentic Italian cuisine in Grand Rapids, MI.

For nearly five decades, Salvatore’s has been synonymous with warmth, flavor, and genuine hospitality. Didn't know what I was missing! Ordered carry out today, Kudos to Abby, who took my phone order. She was very friendly and attentive on the phone and when I arrived. I mentioned that it was my first visit and she went out of her way to give me information about the restaurant and menu items. I appreciated her exceptional customer service. She was right, the food was amazing! We got a 16 inch pizza with double pepperoni, an order of their veal parm, a tirimisu and a canoli. This was some of the best Italian food I've had, and I've been to Italy a few times! Everything was fresh, well prepared and simply delicious. (You never know what you'll end up with when it comes to carry out.) We were 100% happy with our Salvatore experience and ate entirely too much! Ha! Well done Abby.(and the chef) We will definitely be back soon! Highly Recommend Salvatore's!
